January Check-In
Okay, so it’s the end of our first month in this brand new year. How are you doing?? Have you stuck to your Resolutions? If not, go check out my post on Monday Resolutions. Let’s start fresh again. Don’t give up! We all have setbacks but I’ve heard the saying “You’re only a failure if you quit.” So keep trying to achieve your goals and become the person you want to be. I have both spiritual and health goals that I am working toward. Keep reading to see how it’s going…
#1) One of my goals for this year is to read thru the Bible. With the help of the You Version app I have stayed on track and have read my Bible everyday. Along with the app I have also been studying scriptures for content on my blog. So this has been a good thing to keep me focused on God’s Word.
#2) Another goal I have is a set prayer time everyday. So, this month I want to add praying daily to this time with God. I pray now, but I’ve never been good at setting a specific time to do so. I pray throughout the day while I am driving or doing other things, which is good. But I need to set a time and place to really pray. I am working on a specific space in my home for daily prayer and quiet time with God. I want to be more connected to Him than I ever have been before. When I get this space finished I’ll post pictures.
#3) I’ve had a few issues this month with my health goals. I was sick for a week so I didn’t stick fully to Keto like I had planned. I reached for the comfort of chicken noodle soup (which is not Keto) more than a few times. And we had several winter storms move through our area with snow and below zero temperatures. My husband really wanted some traditional chili. So I caved in and made some lamb chili with beans (which are also not Keto). But it was really good and just thing to warm us up on these Ohio winter days. I’m not going to beat myself up. Remember we’re focusing on Progress not Perfection.
Instead of focusing on what we’re doing wrong, let’s focus on the things we’re doing right. That will give us a little momentum to keep going and make even better choices in the future.
My starting weight on Jan. 2 was 176.4 pounds and my current weight on Feb. 1 is 166 pounds. I’m really proud of myself. Even with the slip ups I still lost 10.4 pounds in 1 month. This gives me the encouragement I need to keep making good decisions and to take care of myself. Since I’ve done Keto before I know I will get to a point where I will have extra energy and I won’t need to eat as much. This is a natural occurrence with this way of eating. I’m not quite there yet so this gives me something to look forward to.
#4) My next challenge is to get back on the treadmill. I signed up for the 10k in September but I would like to do a couple of other races before then. Which means this girl needs to get busy. I like using the Fitness 22 app on my Android phone. They have several apps to get you going, since I am registered for a 10k I am going to use the 10k app. This is a great app for anyone to start. It will take you from a “couch potato” to 10k ready in 14 weeks with 3 days per week of training. Day 1 starts you out with a 5 minute warm up, then 6 sets of 1 minute run + 1.5 minute walk followed by a 5 minute cool down. This is a total of 25 minutes for the first day. Each time you exercise you will add a little bit of time to the running/walking portion until you can run the full distance.
***NOTE: This app used to be free but I found it now charges $2.99 for 3 months or $5.99 for Unlimited access. If you don’t want to pay for it, you can always search in your app store for “Couch to 5k free” and it will bring up some options to choose from.
#5) My other big goal for this year is to get my house in order. I mentioned this in my post titled “Where Are Your Eyes?”. This is a huge thing for me, but I’m determined to get my house organized this year. I haven’t started on this one just yet. I’ve been watching the “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo . I have been telling my husband about the series and he says he’s on board with helping me. My hope is that by telling others about my goals, it will help me be accountable.
So how are you doing? Comment below with your goal for January and how it’s going for you. Let me know what your future goals are too. We can do this!! Encourage someone to love themselves enough to take care of their bodies, spiritual and physical.

I have the same goals as your 1,2, 4 and 5. Another 1 of mine is to learn how to quilt so I can make my own quilt using all of the shirts I have acquired from all of the races I’ve done (30+ races!).
